Managing

The Norfolk and Suffolk Broads is a unique wetland, a living and working environment, loved by its many visitors as well as by its inhabitants. The Broads Authority is the organisation responsible for managing it.

What do we mean by managing the Broads? Managing the Broads involves all areas of our work - conservation, land and water management, planning, recreation and visitor services.

To be most effective, we need to consider all these areas together in order to manage the whole of the Broads in all its infinite variety, for now and for the future. We also need to work with many other organisations and individual people to make it all work in an integrated way.

These pages tell you about our responsibilities in more detail and show you how they all fit together.

The Broads we see today is a result of centuries of natural processes and interactions between people and their environment. These processes and interactions have created a mosaic of water, fens, marshes, dykes and woodland - a very special wetland.
