Broads Youngsters test their Language Skills on Film

homepage-imagePupils from Broadland High School at Hoveton have been testing out their language skills to tell potential visitors what they love about the Broads.

The 13 and 14-year-olds joined forces with the Broads Authority to produce a series of short films in French, German and English in which they describe what you can see and do on the Broads. The films feature on the Broads Authority’s new tourism website: enjoythebroads.com

The exercise was part of the school’s involvement in the “Links into Languages” LinkedUp Award Scheme 2010 which supports pupil creativity and independence in modern foreign languages. The films were funded with money from the European Regional Development Fund as part of the Interreg 2 Seas programme.

Year 9 teacher Catherine van Battum said: “The children worked really hard on this and it was great for them to practise their French and German outside the classroom. They absolutely loved being filmed and were really excited to see themselves on the website.”

The Broads Authority’s Head of Tourism Development Bruce Hanson said: “We know people from all over world are using our new website to find out about what’s going on in the Broads before they come here. We thought it would be great for some of younger European visitors to learn what’s great about this magical waterland from teenagers who actually  live here – and to hear it in their own language!”

You can see the films by logging onto www.enjoythebroads.com and visiting the Videos page.
