Wake up to the magic of the Broads at dawn
What better way to start your day than with a wake up call on the Broads?
The Broads Authority is running a series of dawn chorus boat trips and walks to capture the early morning magic of Britain’s most beautiful wetland.
On Wednesday April 28th at 5.15 am and Friday April 30th at 5am you can experience the peace of Barton Broad at dawn aboard the silent solar boat ‘Ra’ while experts interpret the sights and sounds on this 1½ hour trip. Your efforts will be rewarded by a cooked breakfast at a local restaurant. The trip is suitable for wheelchair users. Cost £15, adult, £10 child, £45 family. If you prefer the wild beauty of the Southern Broads you can take a magical early morning trip along the River Waveney in an Edwardian style launch, ‘Liana’ on Thursday April 29th, at 5.30 am, listening to nature’s orchestra while the rest of the world is asleep. Your trip will be rounded off with a well deserved cooked breakfast at the Waveney House Hotel, Beccles. Cost £15 adult, £10 child, £45 family. For those who like to keep their feet on the ground there is a two mile early birds walk around the Lound Lakes Reserve on Wednesday May 5th – provided you can be there for 4.30am! There will be an expert on hand to identify the bird calls and a bird ringing demonstration by the East Norfolk British Trust for Ornithology. Cost £4. To book ring 01603 756093 or 01502 713196.
On Thursday May 6th, from 6-9 am a three mile dawn chorus walk will take you round Whitlingham Country Park with an expert to help you identify the birds from their morning song. Cost £4. Ring 01603 756094 or 01603 617332 to book.
