Planning for the Broads

Planning for the Broads

The Broads Authority is the Local Planning Authority for the Broads area. As such, we are responsible for controlling most forms of development within the Broads and for preparing local planning policies. We work with local communities, stakeholders and the surrounding District Councils to protect the special qualities of the area while allowing for appropriate development that meets social and economic needs and maintains thriving and sustainable communities.

The Planning pages provide information on planning policies, the need for planning permission, applying for planning permission, and planning enforcement in the Broads.

Information on current and recent planning related consultations, including the Local Development Framework, may be viewed on the Consultations page.

The Public Access pages give details of all planning applications we have received.

The Planning Portal is a Government website which provides information on all matters relating to planning and allows you to submit planning applications online using the Standard National Planning Application Form (1APP). 1APP has been developed by Government and is compulsory for all Local Planning Authorities, including the Broads Authority. The forms are designed to be filled in on line, or printed out to complete by hand.

To find out whether you are within the Broads Authority area, go to the Public Access page and click on the 'View Map' link.
