My early years were spent in Wolverhampton and Southall, West London. Having lived in Norwich for the past 12 years, I was appointed Norwich City Councillor for Lakenham Ward in May 2022 and sit on the Scrutiny Committee and Climate and Environment Emergency Executive Panel. My interests centre around justice, access and nature-people positive decisions.
I completed my PhD in Environmental Sciences at UEA, focussing on inshore fisheries. During the day I lead evidence and evaluation programmes on fisheries management, marine conservation, licensing, planning and strategic renewables for the Marine Management Organisation, a regulatory body of Defra. Relevant previous employment includes policy advisor for Defra, and marine and fisheries scientist at Cefas. Furthermore, as founder of non-profit Black Ocean Citizens (www.blackoceancitizens.com), I promote ocean sciences among underrepresented and underserved communities, including disadvantaged socio-economic groups.
Having a young adventurous family who spend the summer months kayaking along the river Wensum, I was delighted to be appointed as Broads Authority representative for Norwich City Council.
Aside from representing Norwich City Council on overlapping policies and bringing in expertise on governance and planning, I aim to promote inclusivity and diversity within the sector, including on mental health and wellbeing issues.
