Update - Recovery of sunken vessel near Polkey's Mill (River Yare)

A navigational warning is in place for a sunken vessel near Polkey's Mill, 3.5km downstream from Reedham on the River Yare (notice first issued on 6 December). The sunken vessel is surrounded with yellow markers to identify it as a hazard to navigation whilst plans progress to recover it. Other river users are advised to proceed with caution in the area.

The Broads Authority is working with the vessel’s owner and their insurance company to raise the craft. Due to the vessel's position, river depth, and tides, the recovery operation is likely to be complex, requiring the assistance of a specialist dive team. Rangers have been monitoring the site and due to the vessel being out of fuel we are not currently concerned about any pollution impacts.

The initial dive survey will take place as soon as possible and it is hoped this will explain why a vessel with a current Boat Safety Certificate sank in calm conditions and inform the best recovery method.

Further updates will be issued when work takes place. The What3Words reference for the hazard is \\\Hardening.Escape.Orange (please look for the marker buoys if navigating in the area).
