Update - Oulton Broad, Mutford Lock
Update - We are very pleased to announce that the project to lift out and repair the lock gates at Mutford Lock has been a success and the navigation through the Lock can now be partially re-opened. The project finished 9 days ahead of schedule. The penstock valves have been replaced and repairs to some of the timber planking has also taken place. We thank you for your patience during the navigation closure.
Unfortunately, due to a mechanical fault, the road bridge is unable to lift at present. Suffolk County Council are working to carry out the repairs as quickly as possible and an update will be provided in due course.
This means that the navigation through the Lock will be restricted to smaller vessels who are able to navigate under the road bridge. However, if you wish to transit the Lock, we advise contacting the Oulton Broad Yacht Station (01502 531778) and they may be able to accommodate a larger vessel depending on the Lowestoft tides and the size of the vessel. The Yacht Station team will be increasing their working times to the summer opening hours (08:00 – 17:00 hours) earlier than planned to accommodate the restrictions in place. Booking is essential for all transits through the Lock.
Notice is hereby given that the Broads Authority will be undertaking major repair works at Mutford Lock from Wednesday 12 February 2025 to Friday 28 March 2025. The repair works will include the use of a crane to lift some of the Lock gates out of the water.
Note: during the above period, passage through the Lock will be closed. Please ensure that these works are taken into consideration for passage planning and when navigating in this area. Signage will be in place to warn of restriction and delays.
